Falling Back in Love with Old Habits

One of my aims for 2016 is to enjoy being creative without putting too much pressure on myself and one of my main goals is to play the piano regularly. I had lessons for six years when I was younger and took all of the exams up to grade six, but then GCSEs, A-levels and university happened and I didn’t get much of a chance to play. I’ve always kept my piano with me, though, dusting it off every few months to have a play and quickly remembering why I used to love it so much.

Now I’m putting more of an emphasis on being creative just for the fun of it, I’ve been playing the piano more and more and I love it just as much as I did when I was at my most competent. I’m still a bit rusty but I’m really excited that it’s come back to me so fast and I’ve been trying to play for a couple of hours or so a week.

There are a few different songs I’m learning at the moment and I’m sure it’ll be a good few months until I have them perfect, but for now I’m just enjoying the process. For today’s post I thought I’d share the four songs I’m currently working on, so here they are:

If you have any pieces that you particularly love, do let me know as I’m always looking for new sheet music to add to my stash!

*sigh* Are you my twin? Seriously. I also play, but I couldn’t bring my piano with me to the UK, and there are no practice rooms nearby. Every once in a while I’d listen to some awesome music and wish I could still play.

I’m a bit of a classical music fan, (I love Mozart to listen to and Schubert to play) but if you’d like something really nice, this Elegie by Rachmaninoff was one of my favourite pieces that I never learned perfectly https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=97vYYcjDh3s Don’t be put off by all the bemols – I was too, but my piano teacher gave this to me my second year of playing. She said people didn’t give it enough of a chance.

I’ve been learning Sweetest Goodbye by Maroon5. Love a bit of Ludovico Einaudi though 🙂 It’s one of my aims to play more often this year. I’m trying to learn a song by heart every month. Sweetest Goodbye was easy because it’s very repetitive. Need an instrumental piece for February I think 🙂

Oh this is so awesome – so glad you’re rediscovering the piano and these pieces sound like beautiful pieces to learn how to play.

I’m now listening to these while I browse 🙂
